Before & after your appointment
Maximise the outcome of your procedure by following our comprehensive post-care instructions, which serve as a valuable guideline.
It’s important to note that each client’s skin has unique needs, resulting in individual variations in healing time and the number of sessions required to optimise the colour of your ombre eyebrows and eyeliner cosmetic tattoos. Therefore, taking diligent care of your treated areas after the procedure is crucial to achieving the desired results. Outlined below are our pre-care instructions:
- Avoid drinking coffee, taking ibuprofen or aspirin prior to your treatment
- Avoid alcohol consumption the night before your treatment
- The week prior to your appointment please apply moisturiser to the area on a daily basis

Eyeliner Tattoo Pre-Care
To prepare for your eyeliner tattoo procedure, please adhere to the following guidelines
- On the day of the procedure, avoid wearing mascara
- Ensure that your eyes are free of makeup and moisturiser
- Bring sunglasses with you for your journey home, as your eyes may be light-sensitive
- If you wear eyeglasses, please bring them to your appointment
- If you use contact lenses, it is necessary to remove them before the procedure
- If you are sensitive to light, consider arranging transportation after the eyeliner procedure
Also, have sunglasses available, as your eyes may be dilated - Refrain from lash tinting for two weeks before the procedure.
- Do not dye or perm your lashes for ten days beforehand
- If you have undergone Lasik or Cataract Surgery, obtain medical clearance from your physician
- Remove eyelash extensions one week before the eyeliner procedure
- Discontinue the use of eyelash serums four weeks before the procedure
Refrain from receiving Botox injections in the eye area two weeks before the procedure - Ensure that the skin is free of irritations, including blemishes, eczema, and psoriasis
- If you have been taking Accutane medication, make sure you have refrained from it for at least one year before getting a permanent cosmetic tattoo
- Discontinue the use of substances that thin the blood and may affect the pigment’s implantation. Failure to comply may result in a patchy healed result
- Avoid using anti-ageing, skin brightening, or anti-acne skincare products for 30 days before your appointment. These products can spread under your skin, leading to patchy healing of your cosmetic tattoo. You may resume your usual skincare routine once your tattoo has healed under the skin surface, approximately six weeks following your final session.
- Refrain from scheduling any facials, microdermabrasion, micro-needling, peels, or laser treatments for at least four weeks before your appointment
- If you are taking any blood-thinning medication, consult with your doctor and follow their advice

Eyeliner Tattoo Aftercare
What to Expect Immediately After the Procedure
Immediately after the procedure, it is normal to experience swelling and redness due to the thinness of the skin in the area. This may give the appearance of having been crying. Itching is also common. Healing time varies from person to person. The swelling should subside within a few hours, and it typically takes around 4-5 days for the scabs to naturally fall off. The true colour of the eyeliner tattoo will not be fully apparent until approximately 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
Appointment (Day 1)
After the procedure, cleanse the eye area by gently applying the water wipes provided for the first 4 hours. This helps absorb excess lymph fluid and prevents the formation of scabs.
Evening: Before going to bed, gently wash your eyes with lukewarm water using dabbing motions instead of rubbing.
Dry the area: Allow it to air dry or use a paper towel.
During this time, you may experience slight puffiness or swelling, heavy lids, light sensitivity, and possibly bloodshot eyes. Sleeping in a slightly elevated position can help reduce any remaining swelling.
Days 1-7
During this period, you may experience the following symptoms, which are normal and will subside within a short time:
- Redness
- Minimal swelling
- Tenderness
- Flaking
- Dryness and itching
Day 2
Clean: Gently wash your eyes in the morning and evening with lukewarm water using dabbing motions.
Dry the area: Allow it to air dry or use a paper towel before applying the provided ointment with a clean cotton bud or fingertips.
Days 3-7
Do not wash the area.
Apply Ointment
Apply the ointment sparingly 2 to 3 times a day using a gentle dabbing motion with a cotton swab. This helps keep the area moisturized and aids in the healing process. If scabs form, keep the ointment on them at all times and avoid rubbing the area.
Day 1-2
Upon waking, your eyes may be swollen and slightly crusty. Swelling should reduce throughout the day due to blinking and increased circulation. Avoid heavy lifting, physical exertion, and crying.
Day 2
Swelling should be less, but you may feel tightness in the lash area and soreness if touched.
Day 3-4
The top layer of skin will start to flake off in small lines resembling stitches. Do not pick at the flakes, as it may result in uneven colour. Blinking helps remove the detached pigment. Avoid rubbing or picking the eyes.
Day 7-9
Shedding should be complete. You can shower facing the shower head during this time, but ensure no water runs into the treated areas. The pigment may seem to have disappeared, but this is a normal part of the healing process, and the pigment will re-emerge.
Day 10
The pigment should have returned, and the current colour is close to the healed result. If you are not satisfied, wait for the final 4 weeks and return for a touch-up procedure.
Note
Healing usually takes 5 to 7 days.
When showering, wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to prevent shampoo and conditioner from coming into contact with the treated areas. Avoid direct water pressure on the eyes. You will be dry healing the area, so no water should touch it for a minimum of 10 days, including sweating.
Follow the pre-care instructions strictly to minimise bleeding and skin sensitivities during the procedure, as excessive bleeding and sensitivity can dilute and expel the pigment colour and lead to poor results.
The following must be avoided
- Direct water on the eyeliner and use cleaners, soaps and heavy creams (makeup wipes will be your go-to this week.)
- Do not use contact lenses for 48 hours
- Do not use mascara until outer healing is complete.
- Do not use old tubes of mascara. Replace old ones with new ones.
- Limit the application of any makeup for 10 days
- Do not use an eyelash curler on the day of the procedure
- Do not use saline eye drops/wash or mascara until healed
- Do not rub, pick or scratch, as the colour may heal unevenly and you could risk infection, which in turn could lead to scarring. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away
- Avoid direct sun exposure/tanning or tanning beds for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors and/or big sunglasses
- If your eyes are sensitive to pet dander, gardening, dust and dirty hands. Sunglasses add wonderful protection from the sun
- Avoid heavy sweating, exercise, sports, sauna, swimming, steam rooms, spa pools, and long hot showers for 10 days. Eyes heal very well. However, if they are exposed to the possibility of a secondary infection like conjunctivitis, seek medical attention if needed.
- Avoid the use of skincare or cosmetics on the treated area
- Avoid using exfoliants around the tattooed area for 30 days – this causes premature fading.
- Use a fresh pillowcase. Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
- Do not schedule any facials, microdermabrasion, micro-needling, peels or laser treatments for at least 4 weeks. They can darken/lighten or distort the pigment
- Avoid drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to the slow healing of wounds
- Avoid driving in open-air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles
Do not perform tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or storage cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris – now is not the time! Care must be taken to keep the eyes clean and free of bacteria.
Please Note
If needed, over-the-counter pain-relief medication is recommended for temporary relief of pain.
After the healing process, your eyeliner will appear lighter in colour because of natural skin regeneration. Often, even with proper care, some areas may look uneven or patchy. It is normal because your natural skin regeneration is not a process that your artist can control. That’s why a complimentary follow-up is included after 6-12 weeks from the initial session to fine-tune your investment and assure that the richness of colour, symmetry, density in the shape and desired effect is achieved.
Healed results vary per individual client. We have no control over what occurs during the healing process. After the second session (touch-up), additional sessions may be required to obtain optimal results. Additional charges may apply.
Following the proper post-care is necessary to achieve the best results. When scheduling an appointment for a cosmetic tattoo, keep in mind the healing time of the procedure will depend on your body’s regeneration, age, immune system, and lifestyle.
Long-Term Care
You’ll find that your cosmetic tattoo will last between 3 – 5 years after their complimentary touch-up session.
Future touch-up appointments are required to maintain their shape and depth of colour. If you do not maintain it, the colour will lighten over time. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment colour used, broken capillaries, and iron deficiency. We suggest that if you want to maintain your eyeliner looking its best, that you plan on scheduling a touch-up once a year for best results.
- The regular use of eye drops or other preparations instilled in the eyes will cause premature fading of permanent eyeliner
- Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discolouration of the pigment
- Avoid using chemical exfoliants or heavy creams on the eyes, as they will cause fading
- Do not laser near your eye area (IPL). Some lasers distort the colour causing it to darken or lighten
- Additional eye makeup application may still be required post-tattoo to achieve your desired look
- If you are planning a laser procedure or MRI scan, inform the technician of your cosmetic tattoo
- The use of chemical peels, acid peels, lightening or any brightening product that targets hyper-pigmentation used regularly near the eye area can cause permanent eyebrows to fade prematurely
- The use of exfoliating cleansers, scrubs, and cleansers near the area of treatment can cause eyebrows to fade prematurely
